We are looking for an Art Centre Manager!

Commencing in November 2026, this is a unique opportunity for an experienced arts professional to lead Ninuku Arts and live and work in the remote communities of Kalka and Pipalyatjara on the APY Lands. Working alongside exceptional Anangu artists, Arts Workers, our Board and community, you will help keep the Art Centre a strong and welcoming place for artistic practice, cultural knowledge, employment and professional opportunity.

This is a hands-on and rewarding role for someone who can balance the artistic, cultural, community and business responsibilities of running a remote Aboriginal Art Centre.

The Organisation

Ninuku Arts is an Aboriginal-owned and governed Art Centre based in Kalka, supporting artists from Kalka and Pipalyatjara communities in the far north-west of the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands of South Australia.

Established in 2006, Ninuku Arts now supports approximately 40 emerging and established artists and makers. The Art Centre supports contemporary Indigenous art, employment and income generation while strengthening Aṉangu cultural practice and intergenerational knowledge sharing.

The Role

Working under the direction of the Ninuku Arts Board, the Art Centre Manager leads the day-to-day operations and ongoing development of the organisation while supporting artists to develop their practice, income and professional opportunities.

• Sales, exhibitions and marketing
• Staff and Arts Worker development
• Community, cultural and industry relationships

Who We Are Looking For

Central to the role is building strong and respectful relationships with artists, Board members, staff and the Kalka and Pipalyatjara communities, while respecting Anangu cultural authority, priorities and ways of working.

We are seeking an experienced, adaptable and collaborative manager with an understanding of contemporary visual arts and the ability to balance creative, commercial and community priorities.

You will be practical, organised and comfortable working independently in a remote environment, with strong communication and relationship-building skills.

What We Offer

Experience in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts sector, remote communities or intercultural environments will be highly regarded.

• $90,000 per year
• Fully funded accommodation, including utilities
• Use of a work vehicle
• 7 weeks annual leave
• Time in lieu for overtime
• Up to $1,000 towards leave travel expenses after each 12 months of service
• Contribution towards relocation expenses
• Professional development and training opportunities
• Potential eligibility for the ATO remote area (zone) tax offset, subject to individual circumstances
• 12-month full-time contract

Essential Criteria

• Understanding of the Indigenous arts sector, contemporary visual arts practice and relevant industry stakeholders, markets and funding environments.
• Experience with budgets, funding agreements, grants and reporting, and working with accountants and auditors.
• Experience in arts marketing, sales, exhibitions or related areas, with the ability to recognise and nurture artistic talent.
• Strong project management and organisational skills.
• Highly developed communication skills and the ability to build respectful relationships across cultural and professional contexts.
• Strong administrative and digital skills.

Desirable

• Experience managing an organisation, program or comparable operation, including staff, finances and organisational systems.
• Experience working with Aboriginal organisations, remote communities, community development and/or intercultural environments.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in visual arts, arts management, business, community development or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

How to Apply

Applicants must hold a current Australian driver's licence and be confident driving a manual 4WD on remote and unsealed roads. The successful applicant must hold or obtain a National Police Clearance and be willing to complete accredited 4WD training.
